I first came to yoga following a running injury in 2011 - months of half-marathon training and lengthy cardio workouts had taken a toll on my body, both physically and emotionally. I had always thought of yoga as "a bit of light stretching" and I reluctantly went along to my first power yoga class (at Spirit Bear!) at the recommendation of a physical therapist. I instantly knew that I wanted to incorporate the practice into my life, and couldn't wait to get back on the mat. I found the combination of breath and movement to be both energizing for the body and calming for the mind. I was amazed at how much better I was feeling - my body was growing stronger, and my stress levels were vastly improved. Things that would have easily irritated me a few weeks prior didn't bother me as much - I was more tuned-in to my emotions - I found that breath awareness is a powerful tool to use both on and off the mat.
I was hesitant about committing to the yoga teacher training at first, but knew that I wanted to take my yoga to the next level. I really had to step outside of my comfort zone, but I'm so pleased that I did. I am very excited to be teaching the practice that I love, and truly believe that everyone can benefit from yoga. I love watching my students challenge themselves and transform through their practice! When I'm not teaching (or practicing!) yoga, I love to be outdoors, hiking, or running the occasional road race. I enjoy cooking vegetarian and vegan delights, and love to experiment in the kitchen - baking healthier versions of cakes and treats. I'm a craft beer enthusiast, and volunteer at beer festivals as often as I can!
I'm thrilled to be teaching at Spirit Bear and can't wait to see you on your mat!
